Dr. Matt Golombek is a Senior Research Scientist at JPL whose research focuses on Mars geology in general and the prediction of surface characteristics at a lander scale from orbital remotely sensed data. He has specialized in the selection of Mars landing sites and is the JPL Mars Exploration Program Landing Site Scientist. He was Project Scientist of the Mars Exploration Rover and Mars Pathfinder missions, led the landing site selection for the InSight geophysical lander and is the geology lead for the mission. Dr. Golombek has been heavily involved in selecting the Mars 2020 rover landing site and is working on the helicopter carried by this rover.
