Brett Carr

Research Scientist
University of Arizona

Dr. Brett Carr will be joining the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. in January 2022 as a Research Scientist. Dr. Carr is a volcanologist specializing in applications of unoccupied aircraft systems (UAS) and photogrammetry in volcanic environments and the integration of observational data sets and numerical modeling to investigate eruptive processes. His research focuses on how long-lived effusive eruptions progress over time and change their style of activity. This broad topic includes projects on lava dome growth and collapse, lava flow emplacement, and transitions between effusive and explosive activity. Dr. Carr's work has included field campaigns to Indonesia, the Galápagos Islands, Hawaii, and Italy. Prior to arriving at the University of Arizona, Dr. Carr received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University and was an NSF postdoctoral fellow at LamontDoherty Earth Observatory and a Mendenhall postdoctoral fellow at the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
